FAI

Hey everybody. As a lot of you know, I just got back from a female athletes camp taught by three olympians. It was a camp for any aspiring female athlete for olympic-style sparring. It was a lot of fun and hard work (What's the difference? =D). We had three workouts every day - a cardio training at 7:00 a.m., TaeKwonDo at 10:00, weightlifting at 3:00 or another TaeKwonDo class at 1:30 depending on the day. We also had strategy training at 6:00 p.m. I got to meet Olympians Barbara Kunkel, Nia Abdallah, and Kay Poe and got all three of their signatures. I also met Master Warwick, who was an Olympian a long time ago. I got his signature, as well. It was a great camp and I learned a lot, but it feels great to be home. I saw some of you already on Friday afternoon and this morning's Saturday class; I can't wait to see everybody else!

Ms Alyssa is attending a Taekwondo Camp with 3 Olympians

As you all know Alyssa Roseman has a goal to make the US National Team. So at Master A's request she agreed to attend the all female Olympic Sparring Taekwondo Camp hosted by Master Barb Kunkel in Colorado Springs! We will miss her next week during our camp at A-Team but she'll be back on Friday! Master A knows Alyssa will do her BEST and share stories when she returns. Have FUN and get some autographs! Alyssa will get to train with 3 former US Olympians: Barb Kunkel, Nia Abdallah, and Kay Poe.

Master A invites EVERYONE to attend next weeks summer camp!

Hello A-Team!  So far the summer has been very hot but our summer camps are ROCKING!  Participate in 6-7 classes in one day covering our exciting A-Team Curriculum.  Work with weapons, kick bags, practice your forms, and of course enjoy the super fun Taekwondo games!  To register call Mrs A at 303-539-6990. Bring 2 snacks, a lunch, a book, to read, your nintendo ds if you have one or a game to play.  Attend two weeks and you have the opportunity to double promote! Double promotions conditional on certain criteria so check with Master A.  We had a super fun time last week and this is our last week of camp till August. See you all there!

Summer Camp was a BLAST!

Summer Campers last week were fantastic! Tuesday was especially ROCKIN when we welcomed the Summer Stars kids and special guests from the South Metro Fire Department. Over 50 kids witnessed the A-Team Blackbelts get beat in a push-up competition by the Fire Fighters. Maybe they can redeem themselves at next weeks camp. A-Team Rocks!!!

Congratulations Mr. Steven & Amanda

Mr. Steven will return to A-Team mid August, but he will not be alone! Amanda and Mr. Steven are now the proud parents of Olivia Dore' Blancher, born July 2nd.
Mr. Steven has given us great news - Olivia has very long & strong legs for taekwondo!! Congratulations to you both for such a beautiful baby girl.

Christiana Gianos is back. . .

. . . and she's looking better than ever! Christiana hadn't been to class in a while, and it was great to see her again. Not only that, but she did an amazing job, too! I was expecting the little girl that came to A-Team TaeKwonDo as a white belt that just did what she was told and no more. Today Christiana was loud, strong, and confident! She focused really well and learned all five of her kicking combinations. She also learned her form (including an awesome front stance!) and her hand techniques. You rock, Christiana! I hope to see you in class more consistently again.

Ian Miller is a FOCUSED 5-year-old!

Ian Miller focused really well today and learned his kicking combinations. He repeatedly told me, "I don't think I remember it," and then did a perfect kicking combination! I think he surprised and impressed us both when he did all three of his kicking combinations with no mistakes. Ian really showed that he has great focus today!

A-Team Tkd appreciates our Armed Forces!

I hope that all of those whom have had loved ones and friends give the ultimate sacrifice for this nation feel a sense of calm and pride this Memorial Day Weekend.  It is because of the great sacrifice of  loved ones whom serve the BEST military in the world that all Ameicans enjoy the freedoms we do.  Our armed forces need our support and let us never forget those who served, are serving, and will serve in our military. A profound Thank You goes to all branches of the United States Military.

Jilla Chamanbahar

Jilla Chamanbahar had a great day today in class! She worked with me on a bunch of stuff for their upcoming test. Jilla is looking super-sharp! I'm really excited for this next testing. I think everyone is going to do really well and scores will be high this time around. What I saw today from Jilla definitely shows that that should be the case! Keep up the hard work, A-team! And great job, Jilla! You're looking awesome!
Master A off to Natural Science Museaum after AWESOME Sat morning classes.

Faaris Hays Wins Gold at AAU State Championships!

Faaris Hays is one of A-Teams top competitors but till recently he had not been getting the results he wanted so badly.  Faaris, whom has worked extra hard to qualify to A-Teams Elite Competition Team Classes currently being taught by Master A's personal coach Master Martinez Senior, fought against a player from Colorado that had defeated him in several previous matches.  Faaris showed true grit and dedication in his training and during his match and is now the Colorado AAU State Champion in the 12- 13 yr old division!  Master A claims that he sees a lot of fire and talent in Faaris and he encourages Faaris to set his goals high, to focus on his training, and to love the sport.  If Faaris and all of Master A's students do that then they will succeed!  Congratulations Faaris and keep giving it all when you train!

1st Quarter MVP New Assistant Recognition goes to....

Nicolas Beran is Master A's selection as the most dedicated new Blackbelt to consistently provide his knowledge and caring to help new students learn the ropes at A-Team Taekwondo!  Nicolas has a gift for being a leader and I see a Master in Taekwondo within this young man, says Master A.  Nicolas trains hard and he volunteers one class every time he comes.  Master A firmly believes that his success as a fighter and a school owner is that when he is not training himself he is helping others in any way that he can.  Nicolas has that same attitude and we are all very proud of him!

A Special Thank You to Mr Larry and Mr Johnathan

Mr Larry is one of Colorado's top new referees and is poised to achieve a second promotion in his referee certification within 6 month for his great performances as a referee!  But Mr. Larry also helped coach and guide our students on the competition floor.  Way to dual task Mr Larry!  I also want to thank Mr. Johnathan whom acted as A-Team Captain warming up the students and then coaching them as well in their competitive events!  Mr Johnathan also was a great assistance to Master A in the holding area as well as competed later in the day.  When it was all done Mr Johnathan stayed with Master A till the very end loading the mats and making sure all was secure!  Thank you guys you both ROCK!

Elliot Lawful had an Awesome School Year

Elliot Lawful received not one, but two rewards at his school! One was "rookie of the year" meaning that he was considered to have made the best transition from middle school to high school. He also got an award in art for craftsmanship. Way to go, Elliot!

Gazala Hays represents A-Team as a referee at AAU State Championships!

Mrs Hays did the A-Team proud by being a contributing official at the May 22nd AAU Championship. International Referee Robert McKenna praised Mrs Hays for her performance and Master A also heard from AAU Referee Chairperson Antonnitte Chavez whom also expressed her admiration for Mrs Hays abilities. Congratulations Mrs Hays your dedication is being noticed and it exemplifies the commitment and dedication that the A-Team is showing state wide! Being a referee is truly admirable and shows your love for the art and sport!

Lilli Svenby-Mikelis competes at AAU Championship and takes the Gold!

Lilli is one AMAZING little lady.  Her talent for Taekwondo is natural and her attitude while training is exemplary!  She thoroughly dominated the 5-6 yr old division and shocked many there with her performance.  Master A was not surprised as he new Lilli would win!  Congratulations Lilli we are very happy to have you as part of our team!

Ms Alyssa Wins Again at Colorado AAU Championship

Alyssa Roseman continues her quest to become one of tomorrows top USA Taekwondo fighters!  Alyssa took silver at the AAU May 22nd State Championship losing a close  and contested match in overtime!  After the event Ms Alyssa came down with a terrible cold and actually missed Monday class, WOW!  She has recovered and now continues her preparation for the AAU Nationals which will be help in Ft. Lauderdale Fl June 28th through July 3rd.  Master A believes that this young lady has the makings of a future US Team Member and better yet is an AWESOME example to our student body in dedication and in caring for the training and betterment of others.  Keep it up Alyssa you ROCK! Ok I'll update your picture soon.

Running with the Big Dogs

Nick Herrick did an awesome job in class today! He was working with Mr. Larry and I in a group with some of the older green belts. Most of the older kids were able to plow through everything they've been taught and move quickly. Nick didn't let any of that bother him, though; he kept up! Great job, Nick!

Future Leader Connor Hoesley

Connor Hoesley did a great job in class! He helped teach his brother, Gabe, how to do his stick drill and helped him kick better. He was very attentive and listened to everything I told him and learned a lot! Keep it up, Connor; you're going to be a great leader one day!

A-Team Rocks!

Congratulations to everybody who competed today at AAU State Championship! Everybody competed really well. It takes so much just to get out there, so great job to everybody that just got out there and competed. Way to go! Not only did you guys get out there, you all did really well, too! Andrew Cohlmia competed with his nunchuck form for the first time and won a bronze medal. A bunch of the white and yellow belts competed for the first time in forms and sparring. Jacob and Eva Goldblatt competed in both for the first time. Jacob won bronze and Eva won gold. Jaxon Mundas won a bronze medal in forms. Shaurya competed in sparring for the first time. Lilli competed really well and won gold in forms and sparring. Jacob Rigg competed in sparring for the first time, as did Niko Gianos. Brandon Harkin also competed in sparring for the first time. He did really well against a very good fighter. Of course a bunch of the black belts competed, too. I heard Ellie Stavropolous scored a double kick to the head! Sorry if I missed anybody. So many of you did so well that I couldn't keep track of it all! Way to go, everybody! I hope to see all compete at the next tournament, too!
A-Team Rocks!!

AAU State Championship

Today we had a great sparring class in preparation for tomorrow's tournament. Everybody did really well in class and a bunch of the little kids even stayed to train with (and kept up with!) the higher belts and older kids. I think the competition will go really well for everybody, tomorrow. Let's bring home the gold, A-Team!

Congratulations, Eva Goldblatt!

Congrats to Eva Goldblatt! She had a volleyball game at Sky Vista Middle School and her team won!

Tyler Nugent did really good today!

Tyler has been working very hard at learning his kicking combinations and today in Master A's group he really showed progress and great focus.  I know he will be ready to go to his next belt in June.  Keep kicking Tyler!

A-Team Competition Squad

Everyone today did extremely well. Master A gave us a solid class. Competition class is not for those weak at heart. Everyday we come, we have to give our all. Props to Faris for grabbing the time today. Calling him out though...In three weeks Faris I'm coming for you! lol. Awesome job today everyone!

Way to Focus, Tyler Nugent!

Tyler Nugent really impressed me today in class when he learned all of the Korean words that he needs to know for the upcoming belt testing. Way to focus, Tyler!

Pure Determination

Sharonya Battula did an awesome job today in class, despite the fact that she was beginning to lose her voice. She was still a strong leader and led the stretch, even though she had some difficulty speaking. On top of that, she was even louder than the class! A lot of students would have thrown up their hands and said, "I can't do it. I give up. I'm sick." But not Sharonya. It takes more than that to stop her!

Congratulations to Coach Martinez for his AAU Coaching Role in Alicante Spain!

Master A's coach and personal friend, Master George Martinez Senior, coached the AAU National Team at the Spanish Open in Alicante Spain! Colorado had a strong representation on the team since there were 4 athletes participating.  Olympian Barbara Kunkel from Colorado Springs was also on the AAU National Coaching staff and helped the athletes tremendously.  As you all know Master A is the current AAU Region 10 Director as well as the COSTA/USAT State President.  What this all means is that A-Team Taekwondo is seriously involved at the highest level of competition in the sport and associated with the best minds as well.  Master A himself is still competing and a lot of his success is due to Coach Martinez Senior (He breaks me down training) and his wife Dena (she pays for my mid life crisis).   Master A's competitive career was quite accomplished in the 1990's and now we kindly termed it Resuscitating the TKD Dinosaur!  Hopefully we will get to see Master A compete at the Rocky Mountain Open in the fall of 2010!

A-Team Students Registering for AAU State Championship

Many A-Team Taekwondo students are registering to participate at the AAU State Championship on May 22nd.  For many it will be their first competition ever and Master A believes we will win many medals on Saturday.  Master A, Mr Larry and Mr. Johnathan, and Ms. Alyssa will be there orienting, warming up, and coaching the team! Ms. Alyssa will have the job of getting all students to their appropriate rings and insuring one of our coaches are in their seats.  There is a spectator fee of $5 per person so get your ticket on Friday during the weigh in and credential pick up.  Anyone volunteering for a 4 hr shift will be fed a free lunch and given free entry to the event.  Master A encourages all participants to take class with Ms. Alyssa on Friday for a final warm up and explanation of competition unfolds.  Ms Alyssa will cover what you all will need to bring and what you should do when you hear your divisions announced over the microphone. She will also give some explanations about what the words Kyongo and Kamchung means.  Aha you did not know and that is ok, you'll know by Saturday!  Registration ends Thursday so see Mrs A before then.

Sofia Beran is one FOCUSED little lady!

Sofia asked Master A and Mr Larry could she warm up with the advanced class, (she is a very advanced green belt) and then she wanted to work on her bow proficiency.  Of course we said yes but what impressed me the most was that this young lady worked for over 35 minutes straight without distraction.  She did it on her own and I was so proud of her because it showed the skills necessary to become GREAT at anything....you got to love it and you have to be determined!  I have also worked with her on her kicking in preparation for the upcoming tournament s and I know she is going to be one of A-Teams TOP Fighters in the near future.  Way to go Sophia!

Summer Stars Food Drive

A lot of you already know about the food drive happening right now at the gym. For those of you who don't, bring in any non-perishable food items. That's macaroni cheese, poptarts, cereal, beans, tuna, things like that. We also need baby wipes and diapers. The approved list of items is posted just inside the gym as you walk in. Let's all do our best to raise as much food as we can for those less fortunate than us!

Great Listening, Paul!

Paul Hughes did a fantastic job listening today and learned all of his kicking combinations! Way to focus Paul!

Great classes today at the A-Team!

In preparation for the AAU tournament this coming Saturday we worked on some serious kicking today!  Mr Larry was kicking really hard today and so was Mr Russell.  All classes worked on simple offensive and defensive techniques that have a high percentage scoring ratio.  I know many of our students will win their first medal ever on Saturday and I am extremely proud of all of them!  Don't miss the match between Mr Jonathan and Mr Russell; although they are in different divisions they will get a demonstration match and the winner gets treated to Outback Steak House by the Non Winner, that includes coaches too! All in fun because we have great team camaraderie and we know that the A-Team ROCKS!

William Serhal Rocks!

Way to go William Serhal with an awesome slide back roundhouse kick! He performed some fantastic kicks while I held paddles for him today in class. You rock, William! Keep up the hard work!

High Plains Elementary Demo

We just had a great demo at High Plains Elementary School. It was a great time for everybody as some students got their first experience with weapons and got to break their first board in some cases and as some returned to do everything again as veterans. There was lots to do, from bubbles and bounce castles to ice cream and pizza. Hope to see everybody at the next demo!

High Plains Demo ROCKED!

Nathan, Nicole, Alyssa, Ms Ellen, Mrs A, and Master A had a BLAST at the High Plains Elementary Demo! Thanks guys we truly represented A-Team to the max.  These little demos are a GREAT opportunity to come out in the Greenwood Village community to showcase our skills and enjoy the festivities.  Teaching a little FOCUS through our proven programs is our main goal as well as to educate the community of NO CONTRACTS and NO GIMMICKS needed in the BEST martial art school (A-Team Taekwondo) in Greenwood Village!  Watch for announcements in class and also on the A_Team Google Calendar located at or web page http://www.a-team-rocks.com/  See you all this week Mrs A and I have missed EVERYONE a lot!

Saturday, May 15, 2010

Alyssa Roseman 2010 Colorado State Champion!

On May 1st Alyssa Roseman   competed at the Colorado State Taekwondo Championship and she took the GOLD Medal!  Alyssa trains 6 days a week at A-Team Taekwondo and her aspirations is to someday win a GOLD medal for the USA at the Olympics!  This young lady works very hard at her school work, she is an excellent young lady at home, and an EXCELLENT example of what an A-Team Blackbelt should be.  Alyssa trains in two classes a day as well as assit her team mates in the other classes, she trains with both Master A and Master A's coach Master Martinez Senior.  We congratulate our CHAMPION and wish her the best of luck at the upcoming AAU State Championship.  WOW, could she be the GOLD medal winners in both leagues? We sure know she will definately give ger best!
